Unit 3 - Supermarket

Supermarkets are an important part of daily life in Britain. The biggest supermarkets sell 80% - that's food and drink. Tasco is the biggest. It's got nearly 2000 shops in Britain and is the third biggest supermarket in the world. Twoof them, Ascla and Tasco, are also the biggest sellers of clothes in Britain.
In the larger supermarkets you canbuy just about anything. On the shelves you can find all the food and drink you need. You can buy sports equipment, bicycles, books, toys and games, CDs and DVDs.

The big supermarkets are uusually on the edge of towns and most people drive to them This of course means that they can buy more and take it home in the car.

çthere are many more supermarkets now than w0 years ago. People find it very convenient to do all their shopping in one place.

It's even more convenient to shop from home. A lot of peeople now use online shoppin.
Tasco online delivers over 100000 orders each week in Britaind and Sainsbury's delivers 30000. It's becoming a very popular way to shop.

But not everyone likes supermarkets. Small shops in towns and villages are closing because supermarkets can sell the same things cheaper. So people without cars have less choice.

Many supermarkets are open 24hours a day and seven days aweek, so people can shop 24/7. But not on Sundays when shops can only open for five hours. That's enough for most people ! Butyou can still shop oline!
